Artist Biography
Luann was born in and raised surrounded by the Midwest farm country of Ohio. She has loved both animals and art since early childhood and began drawing at an early age. With encouragement and support from her family, she graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design, where she earned a Bachelors of Fine Art Degree. She has enjoyed a long artistic career in the graphic design industry as an Illustrator, Graphic Designer and Photo Retoucher.
Luann’s fascination with history provides inspiration for many of Luann’s oil paintings. Friends and family members are often asked to pose for future paintings. Dedicated research and annual trips to the West, and to Historical reenactments and rendezvous are used to gather reference materials for future paintings.
In 2021 she was awarded the Gold Memorial Award for “Parasol and Lace”, and the Anita Emmerich Award for “Pawnee Warrior” at the Royal Miniature Society of Miniature Painter, Sculptors and Gravers Society. She was elected this year to an Associate membership in this prestigious organization.
Luann has painted professionally for over 40 years. She has been recognized for excellence in Fine Art Miniatures by earning numerous awards in juried National and International Miniature art shows. As well as her Royal Miniature Society awards this year, highlights include the Mundy Sovereign Portrait Award for “Aleighna” (2018), Best in Show at the Miniature Art Society of Florida (2013) for “A Woman’s Touch”, the Cathie P. Scott Memorial Award for Best in Realism at the Miniature Painters, Sculptures & Gravers Society of Washington, D.C. (2020) for “Kit Fiddle Serenade”, Best in Figure at the Miniature Art Society of Florida (2022) for “Her Confidante”.
